20 years of smart – an idea wins through

Twenty years ago, one of the most unusual production vehicles ever was launched onto the market. It was recognisably different to conventional cars – the smart city coupé, which today goes by the name of smart fortwo and has been on the market in its third generation since 2014. Measuring barely over two and a half metres in length, the compact two-seater fitted crossways into parking spaces and established a whole new class of its own. Back in 1997 at the Frankfurt International Motor Show, smart demonstrated its own unique answers to issues of urban individual mobility which today are more acute than ever. Production began in July 1998, and 20 years on it is apparent that the idea has caught on in a big way, with over 2.2 million smarts sold to date. die Presse-Partner wrote the press kit for the anniversary.

The new Mercedes-Benz C-Class: New edition of the bestseller

Now in its fifth year of production, the C-Class as the most successful model series from Mercedes-Benz boasts a wealth of enhancements. In terms of looks, the focus of the redesign work was on the front of the vehicle as well as the design of the headlamps and tail lamps. The electronic architecture is completely new. The customer benefits from a user experience with an optionally fully digital instrument display and multimedia systems with tailor-made information and music. The assistance systems are now at the level of the S‑Class. There are also new petrol and diesel engines. die Presse-Partner wrote the press kit.

TecDay Parking: Innovative parking solutions

Each year car drivers in European and North American cities spend an average of 55 hours searching for parking spaces. Yet there often is no shortage of free parking spaces – one challenge is to find them. And the other is to manoeuvre the car into and out of the space undamaged. For both tasks, Mercedes-Benz is able to ease the burden on drivers with modern assistance systems, intelligent networking of vehicles and the infrastructure plus well-conceived services related to parking. die Presse-Partner wrote the press kit for the TecDay.

Recover the stolen smart

It can happen easily, especially in unfamiliar big cities: You don't remember exactly where you parked the car. The new "ready to spot" service in the ready to app of smart solves this problem conveniently and offers additional functions that make getting back to the car easier. However, should finding it fail because the smart is really gone due to the fact that it was stolen, the new "theft recovery" service helps to communicate with the authorities and recover the smart. As of mid-June both services are available in the ready to app free of charge and can be activated there. die Presse-Partner wrote the press release.

Behind the scenes of fuel cell mobility

With the constantly growing proportion of renewable energy, hydrogen will play an increasingly important part in the overall energy system and therefore become more and more attractive for the mobility sector. Following the launch of the fourth generation of the battery-electric smart, the pre-series model of the Mercedes-Benz GLC F-CELL is a further milestone by Daimler AG on the road to emission-free driving, and underlines the company's commitment in this field of technology. die Presse-Partner wrote the press kit for the TecDay.

The future of car light should start soon for selected Mercedes-Maybach customers: the revolutionary headlamp technology DIGITAL LIGHT with virtually dazzle-free main beam in HD quality and a resolution of more than two million pixels should be entering small series production in the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. DIGITAL LIGHT was celebrating its world premiere in the updated top model from Mercedes-Maybach at the Geneva Motor Show. Selected fleet customers are expected to take delivery of the first vehicles equipped with it in the first half of 2018. die Presse-Partner wrote the press release.

Plug-in hybrids with diesel technology are coming

The Geneva Motor Show has seen the debut of two new Mercedes-Benz preproduction models that combine state-of-the-art diesel technology with the 9G-TRONIC 9-speed hybrid transmission. Like the S 560 e, the C- and E-Class plug-in diesel hybrids will in future use third-generation hybrid technology. Delivery of the first models is scheduled for late summer 2018. At the moment, the company is making systematic preparations for series production of the new plug-in hybrids, with its engineers taking the last important steps on the way to the start of production. Also new: an intelligent, connected variant of the Mercedes‑Benz wallbox will make for easier charging while offering a series of additional functions via a new app. die Presse-Partner wrote the press release.

More than 3.5 million cars with Mercedes-Benz emergency call on board

EU Directive 2015/758 requires that from 31 March 2018 all new passenger cars type-approved from that date must be equipped with an EU eCall system as standard. This has long been the situation at Mercedes-Benz: Mercedes-Benz emergency call was launched back in 2012, and has featured as standard in all model series since Mercedes me was introduced in September 2014. Mercedes-Benz emergency call is currently available in 35 countries. As a particularly useful feature in an emergency abroad, communication takes place not in the language of the country in which the vehicle is situated, but in the language which the driver has set in the infotainment system. die Presse-Partner wrote the press release.

The Mercedes-Benz A-Class: The benchmark in the compact class

The new Mercedes-Benz A-Class is as youthful and dynamic as ever, but grown-up and comfortable like never before. It completely redefines modern luxury in the compact class, and revolutionises interior design. Technologically the new A-Class not only takes first place thanks to MBUX – Mercedes-Benz User Experience: it also offers a number of functions that were previously the preserve of the luxury class. In certain driving situations, it is able to drive semi-autonomously for the first time, and MULTIBEAM LED headlamps are available as an option. All models of the new A-Class are also powered by new, efficient diesel and petrol engines, and although Mercedes-Benz has retained the sporty appearance, the utility value has increased. die Presse-Partner wrote the press kit for the world premiere in Amsterdam.

WLTP and RDE: Greater transparency for the customer

Until autumn 2018, Mercedes-Benz will gradually switch its passenger car portfolio to WLTP (Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure). The WLTP provides test results closer to real driving than the NEDC (New European Driving Cycle), which has been in force since 1992. The new CLS is the first Mercedes-Benz to be certified according to WLTP under the Euro 6d-TEMP emissions standard. This also required proof of compliance with the limits in the so-called RDE (Real Driving Emissions) road test. die Presse-Partner wrote the press kit for the TecDay.
