20 years of smart – an idea wins through

Twenty years ago, one of the most unusual production vehicles ever was launched onto the market. It was recognisably different to conventional cars – the smart city coupé, which today goes by the name of smart fortwo and has been on the market in its third generation since 2014. Measuring barely over two and a half metres in length, the compact two-seater fitted crossways into parking spaces and established a whole new class of its own. Back in 1997 at the Frankfurt International Motor Show, smart demonstrated its own unique answers to issues of urban individual mobility which today are more acute than ever. Production began in July 1998, and 20 years on it is apparent that the idea has caught on in a big way, with over 2.2 million smarts sold to date. die Presse-Partner wrote the press kit for the anniversary.

TecDay Parking: Innovative parking solutions

Each year car drivers in European and North American cities spend an average of 55 hours searching for parking spaces. For both tasks, Mercedes-Benz is able to ease the burden on drivers with modern assistance systems, intelligent networking of vehicles and the infrastructure plus well-conceived services related to parking. die Presse-Partner wrote the press kit for the TecDay.

The new "ready to spot" service in the ready to app of smart solves this problem conveniently and offers additional functions that make getting back to the car easier. However, should finding it fail because the smart is really gone due to the fact that it was stolen, the new "theft recovery" service helps to communicate with the authorities and recover the smart. As of mid-June both services are available in the ready to app free of charge and can be activated there. die Presse-Partner wrote the press release.

Behind the scenes of fuel cell mobility

With the constantly growing proportion of renewable energy, hydrogen will play an increasingly important part in the overall energy system and therefore become more and more attractive for the mobility sector. More than 3.5 million cars with Mercedes-Benz emergency call on board
